A little about myself...

My name is Brian Powell and I am a freelance web developer, IT consultant based in Brisbane. I have a bachelor's degree in information technology with a major in applied computer science from the University of Southern Queensland, USQ. I also have a diploma in information technology TAFE Queensland South West; my major was website development.

My education was motivated by a passion to understand the complexities of computers; the engineering, the science; and to harness the power of computers to build secure, practical and helpful websites. What I have achieved to date I am proud of and I look forward to opportunities that lie ahead. My education and experience has given me the confidence to claim a professional standard of workmanship. My integrity is built on a solid foundation and although I am not a member I adhere to the code of professional conduct of the Australian Computer Society.

What I do

There are five important stages to the work I do. Firstly it is absolutely vital to consult with clients to establish what their objectives are. Next is to develop a model of the steps that need to be taken to achieve those objectives, an algorithm if you like. In relations to web development marking‐up the document and writing the scripts are the next step towards the finish line. It is important that the mark‐up is compliant with web standards and scripts are secure. Database connections if required need to be targeting a database that can easily managed. Content: photos, text and other material needs to comply with laws of the land. All these elements need to be managed and administered in a professional manner.

Can I help you?

Commercial, private, e‐commerce, educational – web sites really have no boundaries in regard categories. What they all have in common though is communication of information. Information can be written, photographic, illustrative, video, animated. The palette is rich and continuously changing. It is important that your web is an effective and efficient transmitter and receiver of data, and further that data integrity is maintained and secure.

Platforms, programming languages, phone apps ‐ a revolution of technological evolution is upon us and the end game is nowhere in sight. Where do we begin? With a web ‐ is my suggestion, make it your core and develop your network or web from there.

The LAMP stack.

LAMP is the acronym for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP which is the environment I chose to use. Within that environment I strive to comply with recommendations/standards of The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) because I believe they are important. In particular to allow users with disabilities the opportunity to access material; but also for search engine optimisation (SEO) and other purposes beyond the scope of this statement. The main clusters of technology I chose to use are; HTML5, XHTML, CSS2/3, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, MySQL, Apache2.2., and other related resources. Integrating mark‐up with scripts based on good algorithms and data structures to achieve, as high a level of effective and efficient communication as possible.

Backups, permissions, version control, all these aspects and many more are important management tasks required for a positive Internet experience. Webcore.com.au will ensure these and any required web tasks are executed professionally.
